Chief Scientific Adviser Professor John
Kelly is currently the Director and Founder of the
School of Pharmacy in the Royal College of Surgeons
of Ireland and is a former Chief Executive of the
Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers of Ireland.
From 1995 to 1998, he was the founding Chief Executive
Officer of the Irish Medicines Board (IMB), the
national drug regulatory authority in Ireland, in
addition to being a member of a number of European
regulatory authorities including the Pharmaceutical
Committee of the European Commission and the management
board of the European Medicines Evaluation Agency
(EMEA).
Professor Kelly spent 11 years with Elan Corporation
plc. where he was Chief Scientific Officer from
1989 to 1995. He was also Head of Research for Norbrook
Laboratories in 1999 prior to taking up his present
position with the School of Pharmacy at the Royal
College. He has also served as Chief Scientific
Officer of Athpharma Ltd.
Professor Kelly has had a distinguished academic
career, with over 180 peer reviewed publications
and has held academic posts in both the Royal College
of Surgeons in Ireland and Queen’s University,
Belfast. He is a former member of the Royal Academy
of Medicine in Ireland.
